Let’s Make Black Rice Pudding
This Black Rice Pudding Recipe is a super easy, healthy, and delicious dessert that honestly sorta took over my worlds. This black rice pudding recipe completely twists rice and porridge into something that is completely unexpected, practically flipping the whole concept of rice on its head. It is also super appealing to the eye, except that I didn’t take an appealing photo for it so…. As mentioned above, this rice pudding recipe serves as a healthy dessert, but also a healthy breakfast too. Because we Americans love to eat dessert as breakfast.
Anyway, like any Asian person, other than being really good at being racist to other asian people, I stole this…..and made it better. I had this rice pudding at some random place, and immediately knew that I needed to make this at home because I can’t believe I paid $10 dollars for this, when I already had all of the ingredients at home.
Side note: This is also called forbidden rice pudding because the rice is black.
Helpful Tips: Remember to stir occasionally to prevent burning when simmering the rice. Also remember to remove the ginger about the rice has finished simmering, because you don’t want a random bite of ginger.

In-Depth Recipe
Black Rice Pudding
- Soak Black Rice for over an hour, preferably overnight, then transfer to a pot. Soaking it will help the rice boil quicker. Add in Water, Ginger, Salt, and Brown Sugar in the pot and bring to a boil. Adjust the measurements for the Sugar, Salt, and Knob of Ginger if wanted. Just remember to remember the Ginger after the dessert has finished cooking. You don’t want to suddenly bite into a piece of Ginger and ruin your life.

2. When the pot begins to boil, mix in Cooked White Rice. The Cooked White Rice will help it thicken while keeping the Black Rice kernels intact. Uncooked Rice will work, but add it during step one to have all of the rices boil at the same time. Lid and simmer for about an hour or until the desired consistency is reached. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Add more water if needed. You want a thick pudding texture
Garnish with Coconut Milk, Condensed Milk and Fruit.
